It's been a while, eh? Anyway, what with the glorious sunny weather outside, it seemed a sin to sit inside and cry over whatever new woe I can come up with. So instead I went shopping for my University entrance exam books. 3 books all together, ~60Eur! I'd better fucking get in! But oh well, at least it was money well spent. Feeling great due to the weather (a scorching +10c!), I decided to meet up with a buddy of mine, who promptly forced me to go for a walk. All in all we must have walked thousands of miles that day. More than I've probably walked during the past 2 weeks! Visited a lot of nice, dusty thrift stores, and, most importantly, 2nd hand bookstores. Mmm. Booooks... Whenever I get into one of those stores, provided it has a decent (and cheap!!) selection of english books, I loose myself. I usually snap out of it outside the store, with a heap of books I don't remember buying in my arms. This time I exercised caution, however, and only bought 3 books. Great books! Number 1. was a great find: "The Circumnavigators: A History" by Derek Wilson. A must-have for any naval/maritime history buff. Then some smart sci-fi by Julian May, namely the two middle books of "The Pliocene Exile". That was enough literature for me. My only worry now is that I will get sidetracked from my studies by these great books... Naturally, having walked around for the better part of 2 hours, the evening ended up in a cheap, dark, cozy pub. Yesterday was wonderful day, all in all.. And to make you feel even better, I give you Lotsa Tits & Ass! But if you are feeling pious, here is some reading on Allmighty's Miracles. |

| 27.03.2004 Well, it's 3 min after the 26th of March, actually. But I thought, even though it might look nicer if the update dates are more or less consecutive, that I should stick to The Truth. Anyway, I just got back from a little boring house-warming party (you know, the kind where you feel that you don't really fit), and am feeling rather weirded out. On my way home I had to walk through the central railway station, that nest of adolescent "gangsters" and dope peddlers. One could feel the testosterone and pure machismo hanging in the air. Brr. But. Amidst all that strutting I saw a solitary freak in a blue gown (?) waving a blue flag with a cross on it. Wow. Talk about faith. She made it to the picture of the day, naturally. I am as far from a religious person as can be, but I could not bring myself to scorn that poor woman. To each his (well, her) own, I guess. It's not as if she was harming anyone. Although I probably would have been tempted to, what with all the derisive comments the dumbass drunk teens were throwing her way. I guess it would be nice to be able to fall back on something infallible. This day also saw me walking into the Helsinki University and applying to study Russian Philology and Literature. I will have to do some studying if I am to get in... This might be my last shot at higher education. I am not getting any younger, and a masters degree takes a fairly long time to achieve... |
Onward, christian soldiers.. |
| 25.03.2004 I am so pissed off! And since there is no real reason for me to be pissed off, I think it is an unfortunate side effect from quitting smoking. It has now been over a day since a cigarette has last caressed my lips. And so I fume and thunder. I am pissed off at everything. Absolutely everything. I just came back from the mall by our place, having done some food shopping, and really regret setting foot outside my flat. I had bloody palpitations from being so pissed off over everything. I think I knocked over a couple of slow, senile senior citizens, too.And now that I am home, I am pissed off at our cats for making too much noise. Plus I am pissed off at the stinking winos at the moll for being too..well..stinky. I can still feel their clinging alcoholic miasma around me. As I read the news, I am pissed off at the world for mouring Ahmed Yassin like mother Theresa when the fucker was blown sky high. When I check my left over cash, I am pissed at myself for being broke. And when I look outside and see snow I am pissed off at Finland for being so fucking cold. I guess you now get the general idea. In fact, there was only one thing so far that sort of cheered me up, Check this out! |

| 24.03.2004 Well, hallo there. Today, I've made a life-changing decision: I quit smoking. I am now experiencing some rather interesting symptopms: I am dizzy, as if I am getting too much oxygen, I have sore lungs, and, naturally, I am rather antsy all the time. The thing is, I dont get what non-smokers do with their spare time. Smoking is just such a natural, pleasant way to pass time. You've got a bus to wait for, you smoke. You have 5min to kill, you smoke. You are having a pint, you smoke. What can I fill my time with now? Chewing bloody toothpicks? And while we are on the topic of life-changing decisions, I can say that I made an other one, as well. I've read a lot on dietory techniques that basically say "the less you eat the longer you live". I think I'll give that a shot. Just to see if I can stand the hunger that necessarily accomplishes such diets. Oh well, it's time for me to go watch CSI. Later. And here is another one, btw. Israeli army arrests 'boy bomber'. |
Farwell, sweet nicotine! |
| 21.03.2004 Here I am, back from Tallinn, sick and sore. No, not due to the booze, but simply cos I managed to somehow contract Sinusitis. Oh well, at least no work tomorrow, since am typing this with a fever. But let's overview the trip to Tallinn... Basically, it was great. The hotel even had an obligatory white piano in the lobby. And awful "art". We had a PC in our room, but the net cost a hefty 20e/day! So we didnt use it at all.. However, all around the old town were signs saying "WiFI area" for free use! Awesome! I wish I had my Laptop with me. Hell, I wish my laptop had wifi.. Anyway, having wondered about a bit we decided to buy some shnacks. And lemme tell you, the shops in Tallinn offer much more variety than the ones in Finland, while being many, many times cheaper. But gettin' shnacks proved to be a bad idea. We gorged on all sort of salty/sweet shit while watching Discovery Channel and Animal Planet. The rest of the day we spent being thoroughly sick. There was no more "shnacking" for the rest of the trip. On our second night we split up and did some shopping. I looked at antiques while my better half did what better halves do best: went around oggling girly stuff. Having dragged the loot back to the hotel, we decided to go out bar hopping. We managed to cover 5 bars between 21.00 and 06.00. 1. O'Malleys. Pretty good. 2. Molly Mallones. Overpriced and overcrowded. 3. Depeche Mode Bar. Only if you like Depeche Mode. 4. McCools. Pretentious shithole. 5. 24h Bar Avenuu. Our favorite of the whole bunch, with a 24h kitchen, normal prices, ok clientele. It was at the 24h bar that we met some members of an orchestra from Glasgow, nice fellers. It was nice to hear some some English language for a change. Met some other ex-pats as well, but as ex-pats usually are, they weer pretty snooty. The next day was spent in agonizing hangover. We even snuck out of the hotel to get some..McDonalds. Yes. White trash was in da house. The day after it was time to leave. 3 nights fly by awfully quick when you're having fun. So we got aboard the ship and sailed back home. Home greeted us with lovely piles of cat feces on the floor and a horrible stench. The cats went into hiding as soon as we came in, so no happy family reunion on that account. Heartless bastards. Home also greeted us with some rather nice news. Sweet! B'bye, Yassin! Rest in pieces, you filthy murdering scumbag! |
Through the fog... |
| 17.03.2004 I am in agony. In horrible, torturing agony. Oh Allah, why do you hate me so..? My right eye has become inflamed, probably cos I took a nap without taking my contacts off, and is leaking all sorts of shit. Hurts like hell, too. Will get some eye-drops for the bastard. Hope they help, or it's eye-patch time. And while I am aware that I will look ultra cool in an eye-patch (like this guy), I'd rather retain my depth perception. But that's not all. To top it all off, I also have a major hangover. I got wasted with a friend of mine in the cheepest place we could find, in Kallio, naturally. Had to take a cab home, nasty. According to my girly, I was incoherent and stinky when I came home. So, after all the excesses, I now look like this. Pretty, eh? Oh, and before I forget, I have an announcement to make! I am going to Tallinn, Estonia tomorrow morning, as payment for painting my mum's flat! I will come back on Sunday 18, and post a big one with lotsa pictures! Will be staying in a 4-Star hotel, right in the medieval Old Town itself! While I'm gone, take a look at these fun-fun link-links! 1. Fight Club - The Return of Hobbes! I loved it. Made sense, pretty much. 2. Comparison of Italians and other Europeans. A rather funny toon. I don't think I'd ever like to live in Italy. |
Very.. Film Noir. |
| 14.03.2004 What a lovely, quiet day! After the excesses of yesterday morning / night, I am quite happy to be feeling well again, as opposed to feeling like a train has just run me over. I didn't drink much, mind you. It's just that I went to bed at around 9am, and being unused to staying up that long I felt like shit all through the day. Didnt get much sleep, what with the sun in my eyes and cats wrestling on my groin. So today I decided to add to my movie collection by downloading "Saving Private Ryan" and "K19 - The Widowmaker" (I dont agree with the many bad reviews K19 got. But then again, I am a submarine buff). It gave me a funny feeling. It seems that just a short while ago I was cruising the wires with a 33.6 modem, happy as a bug when the download speeds reached *gasp* 4Kb/s! Now I whine and bitch when my leeching speed drops down to 30Kb/s. Lo, how has the technology progressed... Even though I still use my trusty 486 Siemens-Nixdorf laptop to play Nethack in my bed, as todays (horrible quality) snap will profess. Well, this was enough for today, I think I will go on enjoying my quiet Sunday. |
Nethack in bed = Marital Bliss. |
| 13.03.2004 Allahu Akbar, my lovelies! I just came back home from a sinful night out, it's 7AM, and I have not had any sleep so far. The night I had was not all that horrible. Just some board games and booze. But the main thing was that it was very cheap (very important, what with my limited budget). 10e all in all. I have been all over town today (as far as Konala!), visiting my friends near and far. In the end, we played Munchkin and went to a bar called Maskotti. After that I had a 4 hour waiting period until the first metro, since I didnt want to waste 20e on a cab. Hell, I'm cheap! Having drunk coffee (I never drink coffee) I had a bit of a puking session on the metro. Sad but true. Now I am home, but cannot sleep. Hence this early update. Thank Cod I still have some fags... Not that they make me feel any better, but it is a comfort none the less... Oh, and here is a little link to make you feel better about muslims. The bloody people are still way in stone age,,, On the Madrid bombings: I believe the time came for Europe to wake up and smell the fucking daisies. What has been a fact of life for Israelis for longer than they care to remember has landed on European shores. No longer can we hide our head in the sand, in vain hope that the problems will go away if we pat them on the head and give them a smile. The people we are dealing with, as has been proven to us time over time, are little more than feral animals. Jackals! I hope they will be brought to justice. Tough, unbending and merciless. |
Praised be Lord! |
| 09.03.2004 Howdy! Well, it seems that my prediction of sunless days ahead was way, way off. But I dont mind. When I went out today, I smelled the stench of spring upon the air. My shades fogged with mist from my evaporating tears as I thought to myself - "What a wonderful world!". Not! Actually, the air smelled kinda funky, making me frisky and just a touch horny. To get rid of that evil, evil feeling I decided to go for a walk around town first thing after work. And by golly, that I did. I saw many wondrous things and a lot of queer folk on my way. The friendly hobo, the mighty cop... The wonderful gutter, the owerflowing beauty of the towering trashbin... I saw them all!! But the bestest, queerest beast to cross my path was the cunning Columba livia, largely known by a deceptively harmless name Pigeon. Risking life and limb,I managed to snap a picture of the magnificent brute's back. It is a foolhardy man indeed that dares aproach it from the front! Behold, to your right, a rare snap of the savage! |
The Beast. |
| 07.03.2004 Finally. The sunny days are over. I mean, what's the fun in stepping out only to be blinded by the glare of the pristine snow, magnifying the sunlight a thousandfold? Sure, you then had an excuse to wear shades. It also did make for some nice scenery, certainly. But enough is enough. Anyway, Saturday was marred by a slight hangover, since Friday was money-wasting day. Shit. I seem to have lost the talent for going out. I haven't got gloriously, happily sloshed for the past few weeks, at least. Oh well, I suppose it just takes practice, practice, practice! At least our MTV3 decided to air Survivor - The Amazon reality show. Unfortunately, having looked this link up I now know who the fucking winner is, and therefore will not watch the show in the future. Darn. The idea was good. Men vs. Women. But how could guys win? It wouldn't have been Politically Correct, would it now? Shit. And that Survivor - The fuckass Finnish version sucks diseased monkey genitalia. Finns just aren't made for that kind of a show. Too boring. Besides, Finnish media is still too amateurish to produce something like a reality show with satisfactory results. And here is the obligatory, Politically Incorect, porn link of the day. Mmm. Flexible Chicks. Kinda creepy, actually! |
Sunny,
pretty.

| 04.03.2004 I have been strangely active today. Ominously so, even. And the activity strangely didn't involve beer (not that I didn't want any beer), or computers. In fact, I haven't even played any games today! Straight after work I went to Dad's, who burdened me with some questionable "delicacies" from Russia, including, but not limited to, the infamous "Tushenka" and some rather dubious looking Russian candy. I also (rather selflessly, IMHO) agreed to go meet his lawyer with him, and act as a simultaneous interpreter. And boy, is that stressfull... After the meeting with the lawyer I had to go to an Art Gallery to appraise some of Dad's paintings, and only then went home. ...And vacuumed, gathered the cat shit from the litterbox, did the dishes, picked up whatever shit the cats flung about in my absence, etc etc. I feel like quite the Superman now. A bit domesticated perhaps, but still rather Super. And still a man. The cats are now up to something noisy in our bathtub. I hope the lil' one doesnt shit in it again. I think I should go check... Oh, almost forgot, here is a great little game guaranteed to keep you amused for a while. I only got to lvl 4.. |
I just like this pic. So much.. stuff in it! |
| 03.03.2004 Cats. Boody friggin Cats. The younger one is particulary annoying. The lil' rat pissed on our bed twice already. I don't know what to do with the bitch. I am getting all stressed out because of it. And the funniest thing is that while the Rat is doing something naughty, Slinky, the older cat, is watching from the side, looking like she is eggin her on! Like that time when we found Rat taking a dump in the bath, with Slinky looking on from the side, slightly bemused and waiting to see what punishment we come up with for the Rat. Oh well. I hope she will learn to defecate and urinateinto the proper receptacle. Otherwise I am perfectly happy about today. Did some work, bought some nice books (Eddings, Morgan..) and had 3 pints together with a nice Pizza and a Trivial Pursuit game with a buddy! I've been dying for a game of Trivial Pursuit for a while now. And I won, too! What else could one wish for, huh..? Link of the day is a somewhat humorous site, namely Arab News. The title itself is an oxymoron. Enjoy! I sure as hell did. |
Deceptively cute lil' feckers. |
| 02.03.2004 As you can see, I've done some work on the design of my site. Obviously, it still looks like something from the "wild days" of the internet, but hey, I am still using Netscape Composer to do all this shit. Anyway, I guess I should upgrade to something like "MovableType" or some other blogger script. But nah. I also removed all the old Bryce 2 shit I did back in the 1997, and the links section is actually better now, with all the Oldwarez links that you've heard about but never managed to find at your disposal! That's about as much as I have to say about the site. Now, I would really like to say something nice about my life right now, but there isn't much to say. Except that it's still snowing outside, I'm still broke, and the bloody lottery win I was counting on this weekend didn't exactly pan out. Typical. I guess I will have to go on a looting spree tomorrow. Oh well, it's back to watching "24". And here is a little something that will allow you to let some steam out. So, Throw Rocks at Boys! This one goes to all the female readers out there... |
Another
pretty
sunny day! Shame about all that |
