Friday the 16th

It’s Friday..! Yay! The weekend, so full of glorious freedom, is about to begin, only a few measely hours away! Whoop de la-laa..! Oh screw it. I can’t really be bothered with drumming up enthusiasm for another boring weekend. It’s all gonna be more of the same, anyway. Drunk on Friday, hangover on Saturday, comatose chilling on Sunday. And if not drinking then not really doing anything else either, since hanging out with friends without alcohol has long become a suspect activity. Sigh. Oh well, I’ll think of something. Actually, girly, her mates, and me are going to attend a Russophilic party called Tusovka, there’s gonna be horribly overpriced booze and overhyped bands. Overpriced booze can be overcome with cunning, but overhyped bands can only be tolerated. Await my report.

Shouldn't soil our hands, now should we?

Shouldn't soil our hands, now should we?

I was supposed to do an update yesterday, but forgot my trusty camera at the office, therefore not taking any pictures of the final stages of boat winter lay-up. The complicated task of covering the boat up with a tarp would have been ever so exciting for everyone to see. Anyway, we (or I) did kind of manage to fuck up even that relatively simple task. The angle of the tarp “roof” is too shallow now, which means that snow and water will not be able to easily slide off. Guess I will have to visit the boat every couple of weeks, clean the snow away. Otherwise it’ll end up like last winter, with about 300Kg of ice developing in a tarp pocket, hanging into the cockpit, ruining the tarp and threatening to topple the boat. In other news, I also had the tyres on the Volvo changed yesterday. Took a few pics of that, even though it is hard to imagine a more boring or a less photogenic situation. But I have nothing better to offer for now, nor am I willing to deviate too far from the “A picture a day” ideal, so tyre changing it is…

.

Fuck! I am oscillating fairly rapidly between blind rage and deep depression, with a valley of numb apathy in between the two. I guess I should continue doing my meaningless work now. But hey, just cos I’m a whiny bitch doesn’t mean you don’t get to enjoy the links!

  • Five ways Linux desktop fucks up. Man, I could add another five, but why bother.
  • Then a photo of Earth, moon and Jupiter as seen from Mars. Simultaneously, I might add. Ok, so its a composite image. Don’t sue me, sue NASA. Oh, and pictures like that are supposed to make one feel insignificant, at least that’s how they’re often touted. Well, I’ve never got that feeling from images of Earth from outer space.
  • And apparently some thing that the Large Hardon Hadron Collider is, uh, sabotaging itself from the future, so as not to unravel the fabric of space-time continuum and thus doom the human race.
  • And hey, imagery and some analysis of the LCROSS moon impact’s been out for a couple of days, so far no conclusions.
  • Then some top medical pics of the year according to the Welcome Trust. Nothing gross though, unfortunately. Would have been much more interesting if they included sections like “Grossest deformity of the year” or “The most unusual industrial accident” or “What a way to go”.
  • Ok, this update’s been kinda science-heavy, and in order to retain even 5 out of my 20 daily readers, I think a bit of horror photography by Joshua Hoffine is in order. He’s not that good, really. I mean, out of the works he’s got online only 2 or 3 manage to impress.

Ok, enough with the science already. Check out some cool aeronautical vids! Like the following, where a kite boarder gets killer air. I saw something like that happen once, though not as massive:

This glider wasn’t as lucky. Killed on impact, or so they say. I didn’t find any in depth depiction of the incident on the web:

.

Let’s end with a Kate Bush song from 1989. The song itself is crap, like the vast majority of Kate’s output, but mildly prophetic. The chick must have been an übernerd extraordinaire back in her day!

Ok, enough for today.
