As predicted, my legs and feet are having their revenge on me today after I suddenly took them for a 13km walk yesterday. But perhaps, should I make long walks into a habit, perhaps I will be able to walk the marathon some day. Lofty goals, hah..!

Autumn from the rooftop

Autumn from the rooftop

Today was once more a boat maintenance day. Removed the cushions, battery, all manner of perishable stuff that accumulated on the boat over the summer. Most of the work was already done last Sunday by me, but cushion removal is best done with some help since you can’t just throw them over the side on the muddy ground, nor is getting a 25kg battery over the side and down a rickety ladder is very nice, so I once again enlisted Bonuses help. Had to pick the bugger up from his office, snapping today’s picture from its roof in the process, so only got to the boat a little after 6pm. And that meant near-darkness at our latitudes. So will have to remove the railings and cover the boat tomorrow. At least the cushions are safe from the condensation now. I swear, the boat sweats a bucket a day. Had to sponge the bilge, removed a third of a bucket of horrible, smelly and rusty water… Otherwise it’d continue to corrode the keelbolts, and could also freeze and possibly crack the keelbox. And that would seriously hurt the resale value, wouldn’t it now?

Ok, now the mexican casserole is ready, so food time! Right after the links, that is.

  • Terry Jones remembers Douglas Adams in this nostalgic interview by Times Online. I had no idea that Douglas Adams was a part of Monty Pythons writing team for a while.
  • And to continue on matters of the screen, read Michael Shermer’s review of Michael Moore’s Capitalism. No surprises there though.
  • Then read why Charles Stross hates Star Trek. Man, I didn’t even know that Stross had a blog. He’s pretty good. You should read it. And his books. Sounds like I’ll like his new Merchant Princes -series.
  • On a completery unrelated note, Greenlanders are offing themselves in droves. And nobody knows previsely why. Sure, you could say “location, location, location”. But they didn’t start going all lemming until the late 60’s. Anyway, read the article. There will be a quiz tomorrow.

Today’s clips is all about life and sailing as it should be. A young guy is sailing his Contessa 26 from Nederlands to Australia! I am full of envy. His site is just awesome, give it a look see. Here is a two part clip of him crossing the Atlantic, his first major crossing. Part one:

Meh. I hope I’ll get to experience even a tenth of his adventures in my life time.
