Boat up!

Good time of day, folks! It finally happened, despite the drinking yesterday, the boat is out of the water and safely in her cradle! For neither hangover nor rain not heat nor gloom of soul stays this sailor from the swift completion of his appointed task! Booya! Oh, and let me appologize for yesterday’s post. I fixed it a little, it was all fucked over cos I fell asleep writing it.

Up!

Up!

The whole procedure set me back 80€, which is bearable, and lasted about 3 hours. There were some mishaps, of course, there are always those. Like that I didn’t get anyone to help me, so had to go it alone. Didn’t really need much help, nor did I really call about, but Bonus canceled on account of coming home wasted at 8am, girly had a killer hangover, and I couldn’t really be bothered with asking anyone else. So hey, I start the engine, push the boat off, get just abreast the mooring poles, and put the engine in reverse. Nothing happens. I mean, the proper audio visual effects are all there, but all that smoke, bang and flash isn’t going to the prop, ergo no thrust. At this point I am too far from the pier to get back under my own power, so, swearing the air blue, I hoisted the engine into the cockpit

and took off the prop, only to find the shear pin snapped in half. How the hell? It was fine the last time I used it, and the motor was out of the water all along. Luckily I had a spare pin, so made it to the lifting pier on time. The hoisting itself went without a hitch, and I finally got to inspect the damage to the keel I received during the two groundings I had this summer(and that after 4 seasons of trouble-free sailing). The damage was very slight, two deep scratched and a lot of rust, but that’s it. Phew. Although I guess the insurance company would have picked up the tab.

Ok, and since I didn’t post any links yesterday there’s gonna be some good ones today. Like this one, with dead flies used in an interesing way… Why do I never think of that kinda stuff? Genious. The Big Picture section of Boston Globe never disappoints, either. This time I’ll post two of their photo reportages, one of the Berlin reunion party, part of the 20th reunification anniversary festivities, and the one simply of autumn. Lets throw in some education, shall we? Here’s the US civil war explained in 4 minutes:

Nice. I actually learned something new there. Then some simple food rules to follow. I am trying to lose some weight again, and perhaps, if I follow these… And you know how some people have a photographic memory? Some people can remember every minute of their waking life. That sounds kind of awful, actually. And then videos galore! Some high-speed footage of stuff getting shot up!

And this one is absolutely the best! I mean, wow, I’d like to see a magic show like that! Still, I wonder what Penn & Teller would have to say about that. Where the fuck does the handkerchief go?
